Job Details
Virginia – Alexandria, VA 22314 | Full Time | Salary: $110,000 – $120,000 annually | Hybrid – minimum two days per week, Tuesday anchor day. | Exempt, reports to VP, Finance & Accounting.
Position SummaryResponsible for overseeing day‑to‑day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records across payroll, revenue recognition, donations, inventory, expense management, bank reconciliations, accrual accounts, and financial reporting. The role promotes sound financial practices within a dynamic, mission‑driven environment, and leads two direct reports – Senior Manager of Accounts Payable and Billing Manager – while collaborating with the Finance team.
Key Responsibilities- Payroll Administration – process semi‑monthly and bi‑weekly payroll accurately and timely, manage PTO accrual schedules, and reconcile payroll records.
- Revenue Recognition & Management – manage deferred revenue accounting, partner revenue tracking, and ensure GAAP‑compliant recognition.
- Donations, Inventory & FMV – record and reconcile in‑kind donations, maintain inventory records, and perform fair market value assessments.
- Expense Management – oversee accounts payable, manage the corporate AMEX program, and audit employee expense reports.
- Bank Reconciliation & Accrual Accounts – perform monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile accrual, prepaid, and deferred accounts.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis – prepare recurring financial reports, conduct ad‑hoc analyses, and assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities.
- Additional duties – special projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 7 years of accounting experience with expertise in the responsibilities listed above.
- Prior nonprofit accounting experience with nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, and revenue recognition standards.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and advanced Excel.
- Experience processing payroll on Paycom or similar enterprise payroll system.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical ability, and organizational skills; capacity to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present financial information clearly to finance and non‑finance audiences.
