Position: Head Varsity Softball Coach - Decatur High

Head Coach

Position calls for responsibly coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for athletic competition while simultaneously motivating them to develop an appreciation for the sport. The Head Coach will work closely with student athletes to develop positive character both on and off the field. In addition, the Head Coach will assist/collaborate with teachers, counselors, and other school personnel regarding the attendance, academics, and behavior of student athletes before, during, and after softball season.

The duties identified above are illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.

Performs any other job-related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Superintendent's designee(s).

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualification Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
  • Coaching experience is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated competence in written and oral communication.
  • Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
  • Must possess an in-depth working knowledge of the rules, regulations, and requirements of the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA).
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, governing organizations (e.g. AHSAA), opponents, staff, parents and students.
  • Must demonstrate good organizational skills.
  • Must be adept at developing and managing budgets.
  • Must emphasize the importance of a well-rounded education for all players.
  • Must be willing to be involved in the Decatur community.

  • This position will be filled by a person who possesses high moral and ethical standards. In addition, candidates should exhibit professionalism as demonstrated through their work experience, professional activities, and demeanor.

Language

Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, teachers, parents, regulatory agencies and members of the business community. Ability to write, speak and present information effectively.

Mathematical

Skills:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts and interpret data.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate
  • Valid Alabama Driver's License

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, stoop, bend and/or run. The employee frequently is required to talk and/or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, equipment or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.

Salary:

  • Listed below are items that may be necessary to complete your employment process in order to compute your annual salary. It is your responsibility to provide us with this requested information in order to receive your accurate salary.
  • We need verification of previous public school teaching experience. Use the following information when requesting verification of experience from your past employment at other boards of education:
    • Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP
    • Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed
    • Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted
    • Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year
    • Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule
    • Transfer Sick Leave:
      If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department
  • The Decatur City Board of Education awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education. The degree must be verified on an official transcript & recognized by the Alabama State…
