Job Title
Coordinates and provides intensive, targeted professional development for elementary school teachers to bolster students' reading proficiency.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:- Demonstrates the ability to plan with classroom teachers to decide on the best methods and materials to assist students in becoming proficient readers and language users.
- Collaborates with the principal to create a strategic plan for coaching to support and measure the impact of reading instruction according to the science of reading, school baseline data, and data from approved early reading assessment systems.
- Facilitates school-wide professional development and monitoring and measuring the impact of transfer to practice.
- Models effective science of reading instruction for teachers that is explicit, systematic, inclusive of detailed explanations, and more extensive opportunities for guided practice, error correction, and feedback.
- Coaching and mentoring teachers daily via planned coaching cycles based on data and gradually releasing responsibility to teachers.
- Facilitating data analysis discussions and supporting teachers by using data to differentiate instruction according to the needs of students by adhering to the framework of tiered instruction.
- Fostering multiple areas of teacher professional learning, including exceptional student education and content area knowledge, and making adjustments based on data.
- Prioritizing time for those teachers, activities, and roles that will have the most significant impact on student reading achievement, such as coaching and mentoring in classrooms, as evidenced by coaching logs, student impact data, and site visit data.
- Monitoring the reading progress of all students a minimum of three times per year and making recommendations for the adjustment of instruction according to student-specific needs identified from multiple data points and aligned with the science of reading as specified in the strategic coaching plan.
- Leads conversation and data groups in identifying issues, setting goals, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrates qualities of patience, understanding, trustworthiness, and attention to work.
- Leads and assists in book studies.
- Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with the classroom teachers.
- Possesses a thorough knowledge of reading and language development.
- Selects, administers, and scores tests (both formal and informal) and uses the results to support student reading growth and achievement.
- Demonstrates the ability to decide on the best methods and materials to assist students in becoming proficient readers and language users.
- Knowledgeable about current valid reading research, approaches, and methods.
- Knowledge of appropriate intervention and expansion strategies and use these reading strategies with individual, small, and large groups.
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
- Models and discusses classroom lessons.
- Works in a collaborative setting to co-teach reading instruction.
- Visits classrooms and provides written feedback.
- Work with struggling readers.
- Coach and support ARI school teachers delivering research-based instruction learned in the summer workshops in their classrooms.
- The coach will be afforded a daily planning time to prepare for duties.
- Attends a day-long (overnight travel may be required for some) monthly training session sponsored and conducted by the ARI, usually conducted in Montgomery, Alabama.
- Report the progress of the Literacy Demonstration Site(s) to the SDE.
- Participate in faculty meetings to introduce the ARI to other schools in the LEA or neighboring LEAs.
- Provide (or arrange for) staff development related to the ARI to schools in the LEA.
- Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

- Nine (9) month contract.
Education & Experience:
- The required Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
