Drafter
Job Description
The Drafter will coordinate the update of existing plant drawings, specifications, and standards. This role involves coordinating document control for Engineering Department specifications and standards, P&IDs, and assisting with data gathering and research for the Engineering, Maintenance, and Production Departments. The Drafter will also support capital projects and participate in Management of Change procedures.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate the update of existing plant drawings, specifications, and standards.
* Assist with changes to plant drawings and PSI through Management of Change procedures.
* Coordinate document control for Engineering Department specifications and standards.
* Support data gathering and research for Engineering, Maintenance, and Production Departments.
* Assist with data gathering and drawings to support capital projects.
* Coordinate capital projects as assigned by Supervisor and/or Manager.
* Ensure efficient production methods, flow of work, and use of space.
* Follow projects to completion to ensure document control responsibilities are completed.
* Expedite assigned document control segments of projects to avoid costly delays.
* Maintain various engineering records and prepare status reports.
* Recommend use and upgrades of software and equipment.
* Investigate feasibility of new equipment and techniques for drafting activities.
* Participate in the development of new or improved department procedures.
* Assist with document control of designs that comply with applicable laws and regulations.
* Participate in setting goals and objectives for the department.
* Interface with engineers, managers, etc., in group meetings as required.
* Develop and maintain good working relationships with all departments.
* Provide continuous communication to all departments concerning drafting project status.
* Assist with maintaining preventive and predictive maintenance information systems.
* Assign equipment numbers and update the equipment database.
* Assist other team members with spare parts lists for stockroom inventory.
Essential Skills
* Associate of Applied Science degree in Design Drafting Technology or equivalent training in Drafting/Computer Aided Design.
* Proficiency in AutoCAD design drafting software.
* Familiarity with industry drawing standards.
* 3 to 5 years of experience.
* Ability to participate in an intensive team environment.

Work Environment
This position involves a mix of desk work and plant floor activities. The Drafter will update drawings in AutoCAD and verify them on-site, ensuring all matches reality. The role requires close collaboration with maintenance and engineering teams and includes hands-on tasks compared to a typical drafting role. Physical demands include lifting up to 20 lbs., bending, kneeling, and climbing stairs and ladders.
The role requires an 8-hour work shift with potential overtime.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Decatur, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.44 - $32.21/hr.
