Process Engineer Decatur, AL Responsibilities

  • Provide technical service to the assigned unit through daily monitoring of unit operations.
  • Identify ways to improve quality, reduce costs, enhance safety, and lower emissions, and present recommendations with technical substantiation to the unit team for implementation.
  • Develop and conduct tests, evaluate results for proposed operating changes to improve product quality, production capacity, or reduce operating costs.
  • Develop knowledge of the technical aspects of the assigned area.
  • Investigate the operating and economic feasibility of implementing modern technology, safety and operability recommendations, and planned capacity changes.
  • Collaborate closely with the unit team to prepare the annual control budget, operating reviews, and economic studies to evaluate proposed operating programs.
  • Provide technical support to PSM/RMP and other regulatory programs.
  • Investigate production, safety, environmental, or quality issues.
  • Ability to work across Japanese and American cultural lines.
  • Prompt, regular, and dependable attendance.
  • Provide technical support for maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Improve existing processes and equipment for more efficient and cost‑effective operation.
  • Design and document chemical processes required for development of improved products.
  • Coordinate process development efforts with colleagues and management to achieve objectives.
  • Select equipment required for development of new products.
  • Write procedures and provide training for safe operation of new equipment.
  • Select equipment and control devices to enhance process control.
  • Perform leadership duties on selected projects, including planning, activity coordination, and progress reporting.
  • Supervise technicians as required.
  • Maintain awareness and report on modern technologies.
  • Perform tasks determined by the department manager necessary for department objectives.
  • Direct and manage coordination between engineering and production to maximize uptime, quality, and safety in an environmentally sound manner.
  • Maintain continuity of staff attitudes in a proactive mode.
  • Provide engineering and maintenance services to the operations group as needed.
  • Establish and implement engineering/maintenance cost‑saving techniques.
  • Maintain a safe and environmentally sound working environment.
  • Maintain objectives within fiscal budget constraints.
  • Evaluate, set goals and determine priorities within departments.
  • Interface with other engineers, managers, etc., in group meetings.
  • Assist with adherence to regulatory agency requirements.
  • Reduce maintenance/material and repair costs when possible.
  • Assist with the design and operation of equipment to minimize environmental releases.
  • Maintain plant goals and objectives overall.
  • Communicate continuously with other management to maintain necessary dialogue.
  • Provide engineering assistance to plants by troubleshooting and designing improvements to optimize operations and reduce costs.
  • Maintain schedules and reduce costs of design changes by specifying and assisting in the purchase of equipment.
Qualifications
  • BS in Chemical Engineering (required).
  • Distillation process experience (desired).
  • 10+ years of experience as a Process Engineer in a chemical or petroleum manufacturing environment (strongly desired).
Physical Demands
  • Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Good mobility.
  • Able to work for 12 hours.
  • Climb stairs several times per shift.
  • Good hearing and sense of smell.
  • Work in a potentially stressful environment.
Benefits / Compensation

Base salary up to $110,000 (depending on experience), sign‑on bonus, annual bonus 8–12%, paid relocation assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package.
