- Maintain the MK1 Transfer Stage mass-properties model, keeping component mass, CG, and inertia data accurate and traceable
- Support mass roll-ups and margin tracking against stage allocations
- Flag mass growth trends to subsystem leads and program leadership
- Reconcile predicted and measured mass properties and support root-cause investigations
- Assist with stage- and vehicle-level CG and weighing operations, including test setup coordination and data analysis
- Identify downstream consumers of mass-properties data and effective delivery methods
- Track propellant loading and burn-state mass properties across mission phases
- Generate status reports and present findings at design reviews, program milestones, and status meetings
- Maintain configuration control of mass-properties documentation
- Document assumptions, threats, methods, and uncertainty in mass estimates
- Own the Transfer Stage mass budget and allocation flow-down to subsystems
- Champion minimum-mass solutions across Fluids, Avionics, Thermal, GN&C, and Structures
- Lead mass trade studies with manufacturing, balancing mass, cost, schedule, and producibility
- Serve as responsible engineer for mass properties at program-gated reviews
- Define uncertainty and margin methodology and set MGA policy by design maturity
- 5+ years of demonstrated ownership of mass budget
- Working proficiency with CAD tools (CATIA, NX, Solid Works, or Creo)
- Ability to navigate and interpret subsystem detailed assemblies
- Understanding of center of gravity, moments and products of inertia, and mass margin management
- Proficiency with Python and/or MATLAB for data tracking, reduction, and reporting
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Experience with BOM-based mass properties tracking on a flight vehicle or spacecraft preferred
- Familiarity with rendezvous, proximity operations, or docking dynamics preferred
- Exposure to propulsive-stage mass accounting, including propellant loading and burn-state mass properties preferred
- Experience supporting physical weighing or CG measurement operations, or critical lift planning preferred
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident/current Green Card holder, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Required Blue’s Standard Background Check
Demonstrates expertise in mass properties management, including mass budget ownership, data analysis, and effective communication of findings. Proficient in CAD tools and programming languages for data tracking and reporting, with a strong understanding of mass margin management and center of gravity principles.
