Role Overview

Surveillance and Access Control Technician III. This position is contracted through 6/30/27 with possible renewals.

Work Environment and Requirements
  • Location: Hybrid schedule with WFH and on-location work at prisons as needed.
  • Residency: Candidates MUST be a WI resident within a one-hour commute to Madison, WI, or willing to relocate within one hour of Madison, WI prior to starting at their own expense.
  • Travel: Mostly in-state day trips. State vehicles are provided from the fleet pool for qualified drivers. Infrequent overnight travel may occur and is planned in advance.
  • On-Call: On-call rotation once every 8 weeks. Rate is $2.25/hour to carry the phone; normal hourly rates apply if work is required.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Cisco Networking (Routers & Switches): 3 years
  • Web Filtering (Palo Alto & Zscaler): 1-2 years
  • Video Surveillance (Network/Server/Workstation): 1-2 years

  • Door Controls Knowledge
  • Building Automation Knowledge
Responsibilities

As an IT professional on this team, you will be responsible for facilities-based systems, including surveillance, door control, building automation, and telecommunications.

  • Design, plan, install, and support systems including desktop PCs, servers, network devices, storage solutions, and surveillance-specific equipment.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and monitor multiple state-wide networks and web filtering solutions.
  • Mitigate technical issues as they arise.
  • Create and maintain extensive system documentation.
  • Work independently at agency locations (nearly 200 sites state-wide), including secure facilities.
