Chemical Process Technician
LocationDecatur, Alabama
Position DescriptionThis entry‑level position is responsible for loading hopper cars and trucks, operating and maintaining associated equipment, and acquiring necessary skills to advance through the Operations Progression System to a minimum of Tech Level 3. The role follows SHE Excellence, 20 Principles, and Life‑Saving Rules.

- Participate in self‑driven and departmental training to progress through the Operations Progression System
- Complete yearly mandatory training and modules
- Adhere to all procedures, policies, and guidelines
- Perform other duties as assigned within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s skills classification of work
- Perform production unit responsibilities to achieve scheduled production and daily activities
- Load and unload hopper cars and trucks, perform rail switches
- Operate all associated equipment, e.g., bins/transfer systems, shuttle wagon, forklift truck
- Assist preparation of equipment for maintenance and permit management
- Maintain detailed and accurate written records
- Interact effectively in a team‑oriented culture with multi‑functional teams to achieve business results
- Participate in effective shift turnover
- Identify and troubleshoot related process issues and work toward solutions
- Preserve high standards of housekeeping
- Communicate effectively by radio, email, telephone, and face‑to‑face
- High School diploma or GED at a minimum
- College, college‑level, or technical certification achievement preferred
- Chemical or manufacturing plant experience required
- Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills
- Basic understanding of safety, health, and environmental concepts
- Complete and maintain Forklift Driving certification
- Work 12‑hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
- Work inside and outside in all seasons
- Frequently walk, ascend and descend stairs or caged ladders to heights up to 85 feet
- Push, pull, lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and use fine motor dexterity
- See written documents and computer screens
- Always be alert, able to concentrate on the task, not impaired by medications or any condition that adversely affects alertness, concentration, or judgment
