Quality Assurance (QA) Chemist 1

Conduct specialized, complex testing of products and raw materials. Complete other Quality assignments related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality procedures regarding raw materials, intermediates, and finished products while working closely with plant personnel, providing training, and troubleshooting problems as needed for stable production operations. Assist with and facilitate our “preventive style” QA activities to reduce risk of Quality failures.

Coordinate new test method introductions in QC labs and ensure proper calibration of various testing equipment is established and maintained.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in analytical Science (Chemistry is preferred).
• Experience with GC, GC/MS, LC/MS, FTIR, UV vis, DSC, TGA, ICP, AA or other analytical equipment is required.
• A minimum of 2 years’ industrial manufacturing experience within a QA/QC work area or other analytical lab is desired but not required.

Typical Duties / Responsibilities (may include):

• Prompt, regular, and dependable attendance is an essential function of this job.
• Accurate and concise report writing and communication skills to present / discuss complex technical information.
• Implements and coordinates quality control procedures in all manufacturing areas as assigned.
• Conduct detailed / complicated analytical methods accurately and timely.
• Calibration of QC equipment in a traceable manner.
• Assists plant personnel in resolving problems related to material specifications, process upsets, inventory control, inspection equipment troubles and other production operations impacting quality.
• Development and implementation of material specifications and analytical procedures for various raw materials used to support intermediate products and final products at Daikin America.
• Coordination of activities with Operations and Technical Departments to ensure proper methods and procedures are used in determining raw material or product characteristics.
• Maintain equipment and documentation to ensure validity, accuracy, and reliability of analyses and control activities.
• Training of personnel (i.e., plant operators, QC technicians, and area supervisors/engineers) in analytical methods.
• Solving quality problems.
• Participation or coordination of continual improvement activities/projects as assigned.
• Conduct internal quality audits.
• Investigates customers’ complaints about product quality and, if required, collaborates closely with customers’ representatives to resolve problems.
• Assists in inspection and start-up of new or modified equipment.
• Assists others for training purposes and supervision during periods of absence of other supervisors.
• Safe operation of QA/QC equipment as needed in support of production processes.
• After proper training, respond to emergency alarms under the supervision of the Safety and Health Department personnel.
• Perform housekeeping and preventive maintenance associated with the work area and equipment in the laboratory. Prepare, properly label, store and maintain records on retained samples for potential future tests and disposal of outdated retains as requested.
• Responsible for full and complete recording of data accumulated in any area of described duties: data recorded on notebooks, prescribed report forms and computer equipment and including date, time, and initials of the technicians performing the tests. Perform re-checks and re-analyses as required.
• Responsible for conforming to all health and safety requirements and regulations, reporting to the area supervisor any hazardous conditions or malfunctions of equipment which could become hazardous. Some items in this category are wearing safety glasses, goggles, face shield, hard hats, protective clothing and chemical and/or dust masks as required for work assignments.
• Provides technical assistance to purchasing in such areas as interpretation of specifications, design concepts, and related information in connection with the purchase of raw materials, supplies, and inspection/test equipment.
• Assist other QA/QC staff as needed during vacation or other situations.
• Perform special assignments or projects related or unrelated to quality as need to fulfil objectives or requirements.
• Additional assignments as deemed necessary by management.
