General FunctionAs a Delicatessen Manager, this position will be responsible for setting the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance and overall profitability. You will coordinate the delivery of the freshest and best quality product at a competitive retail price and maintain a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Accountable to and reports to:
District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers (Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home), Food Service Director. Direct reports:
Delicatessen Department Employees.
- Maintain a positive attitude; create an atmosphere of friendliness and teamwork.
- Encourage employees to greet and speak to customers, providing prompt, courteous, and efficient service.
- Set the department standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and overall profitability.
- Smiles and greets customers; learn customer names and address them by name whenever possible.
- Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing items that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, noting and passing on customer suggestions, and performing any tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
- Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers including taking product orders.
- Recruit, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate all department employees.
- Determine department goals with the store director and develop weekly work schedules and daily work plans.
- Inspect signage and displays for quality and quantity, order product for replenishment, and maintain proper temperatures and storage procedures to ensure freshness.
- Communicate with employees regarding sales and ideas, handle customer issues, and ensure correct pricing.
- Extend invoices, post invoices, and oversee department bookkeeping procedures.
- Analyze weekly and monthly sales and trends, compare to actuals, prepare ad projections, and write advertisements.
- Conduct inventory of the department and plan displays, promotions, and pre-orders.
- Support employee hygiene and dress standards and adhere to company policies and store guidelines.
- Schedule and attend meetings, seminars, and continuing education.
- Unload trucks, check in delivered merchandise, and place items in appropriate storage areas.
- Fill displays, work in the sales area, assist in other store areas, and perform special projects as required.
- Ensure pricing is competitive in the market area.
- High school equivalent, with at least one year of related supervisory experience.
- Problem‑solving skills for varied scenarios with limited standardization.
- Arithmetic ability, including calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to compose original correspondence, interpret written instructions, interview job applicants, and follow technical manuals.
- Ability to read maps, diagrams, and reports.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of food handling, sanitation, and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of inventory control, pricing, and department budgeting.
- Ability to manage personnel and coordinate schedules.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment and schedule maintenance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly. Must be able to perform climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
