Overview

Turner Industries Group, LLC has an opening for a Civil Carpenter to join our Team in the Decatur, AL area. The Civil Carpenter will be responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, fabricating, dismantling and repairing structures, formwork and fixtures of wood, metal forms and associated accessories.

Responsibilities
  • Study blueprints, sketches or structural plans for information pertaining to the type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated
  • Select specific types of lumber or other materials
  • Prepare layouts including lines and grades
  • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials
  • Shape materials to prescribed measurements
  • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together
  • Erect framework for structures and lay sub-flooring
  • Build stairs and lay out/install partitions and cabinet work
  • Cover subfloor with building paper to keep out moisture and lay hardwood, parquet, and wood-strip-block floors
  • Fit and install prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim
  • Finish hardware such as locks, letter drops and kick plates
  • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete
  • Erect temporary platforms, steps, and ladders for assembling structures below ground or at ground level
  • Fabricate formwork, load, haul, and carry it to the job site and install per drawings
  • Place and finish concrete in formwork and set and align form panels
  • Set grout forms for epoxy and cement grout
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor s direction
Qualifications
  • High school or equivalent
  • One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools
  • NCCER certification may be required at some job sites
  • Written pre-employment qualification test
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
  • Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
  • Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace
Tools/Equipment
  • Tool box, claw hammer, hand saw, framing square, level, tri square, torpedo level, measuring tape, nail pouch, plumb bob, gloves, nail bar, chalk box, tie wire pliers
  • Hack-saw, pliers or vise grips, screw drivers, wood chisels, folding ruler or tape, crescent wrench, scaffold socket wrench and combination wrench, rain suit
Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.

Physical Involvement
  • May be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level
  • Maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc.; reaching in all directions
  • Handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment
  • Lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead
  • Carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing / sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting
  • Seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction; wearing respirator and other PPE
  • Typing / data entry; stepstool use
  • Work in excessive heat and cold; work in loud environment
