Perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs. Ability to work overtime and respond to service calls during non-standard work hours.
Other duties as required.
Successful applicants must pass a criminal background check and will be subject to a pre-employment drug screen.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Inclement weather, to include extreme heat/cold, rain, etc.
- Light conditions associated with day and night
- Travel throughout the county to various Sheriff’s Office locations
- Working inside the Baldwin County Corrections Center
- Works with and in-close proximity to inmates
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis mechanical (not electric) principles.
- Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.
- Ability to work overtime and respond to service calls during non-standard work hours.

- Required: Valid Driver’s License and good driving history; criminal background check authorization required, pre-employment drug screening and physical required.
- Preferred: Minimum one-year building maintenance experience or building/construction experience; HVAC, Electrical Plumbing, Welding, Mechanical and Carpentry experience;
Experience in a supervised security facility; two-year or technical degree in related field
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, arithmetic and modern office practices and procedures
