Job Overview

Company Cox Automotive – USA – Vehicle Operations – Sr Mobile Diesel Technician (DOT Management Level) – Individual Contributor. Flexible work option: can work remotely but must live in the specified city, state, or region. Travel  . Work shift

Variable. Compensation: hourly base pay $32.26 – $48.41/hour (may vary) with potential commission or incentive program.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Conduct minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment: electrical, brake, cooling, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions, clutches, differentials, air conditioning, and other systems.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges. Road‑test vehicles to confirm proper functioning.
  • Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and determine accurate diagnoses.
  • Independently manage parts inventory, reconcile supplies, and maintain company‑issued service truck, including safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.
  • Provide client service: listen to customer needs, give information, resolve issues, and meet expectations.
  • Prioritize concurrent tasks, allocate time, and document all work per company standards, uploading pictures and details via the TRAIT application on an iOS device.
  • Complete DOT forms and all required documentation promptly.
  • Adhere to safety, health, environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT) while operating equipment.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related field experience (alternative combinations accepted).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Must possess and supply a set of hand tools needed for the job.
  • OEM training and certifications preferred.
  • Complete all company‑required training.
  • Successful completion of a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background check and DOT physical; or a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining.
  • Age 21 or older (interstate operating authority requirements).
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
  • Must obtain the following certifications within 18 months of hire: ASE T8 (PMI), ASE 608/609, and one of the following preferred: ASE T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, A8, L1, L2.
  • Strong mechanical/diagnostic skills, ability to work independently, and physical stamina for lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for long periods.
