Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Maintenance Technician
Troubleshoots, repairs, rebuilds, replaces and performs preventive maintenance on mechanical equipment.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Performs maintenance on plant equipment
- Repairs, rebuilds and/or replaces plant equipment (e.g., pumps, motors, valves and packing, compressors, gearboxes, centrifuges, furnaces and refrigeration systems)
- Performs preventive maintenance
- Interprets blueprints and drawings
- Identifies lubrication types, properties and applications
- Operates standard and precision shop tools and equipment
- Sets up rigging; prepares and evaluates job site
- Aligns rotating equipment using laser and dial indicators
- Prepares equipment to be sent off site
- Interacts with operations staff and engineers to diagnose and resolves upsets due to equipment failures
- Works with engineers to resolve problems identified by EHM
- Uses vibration readings to evaluate and troubleshoot equipment performance
- Install blinds in piping and make up flanged and screwed piping connections
- Conducts unit walk-throughs and report findings to MTS and Maintenance Coordinator
- Fills out and files in equipment file equipment repair history sheets for pumps, compressors, centrifuges and agitators
- Performs administrative duties
- Reviews trouble log and determines if maintenance is needed
- Records time against work orders
- Uses SAP to locate and order parts
- Updates equipment history in SAP
- Navigates equipment specification data bases
- Participates in peer performance evaluations
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned
- Maintains a clean and well organized work area
- Attends meetings as required
- Attends training as required
- Uses computer applications such as SAP and MS Office
- Complies with all HSSE programs, policies and procedures
- Support maintenance plans and procedures
- Continuous development of technical skills through training and practice
- Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned

Experience:
Education/Experience/Certifications
Required:
Two year technical degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical Maintenance or other maintenance related field or 5 years' experience in equivalent maintenance experience. Work Key Certification;
Workplace Documents (4), Graphic Literacy (4), Applied Math (4) and Applied Technology (4). Ability to interpret MSDSs. Troubleshooting and problem solving capabilities. Basic knowledge of electrical safety. Basic knowledge of the principles of predictive maintenance (PM). Basic knowledge of failure analysis techniques. Effective oral and written communication skills. Basic PC skills.
Education/Experience/Certifications Preferred:
Working knowledge of PSM Mechanical Integrity guidelines. General knowledge of engineering standards, piping and equipment specifications, and materials of construction. Basic knowledge of plant processes. Thorough knowledge of plant equipment.
