Job Summary and Responsibilities

The Data Center Low Voltage Installation Technician is responsible for the physical installation, termination, testing, and labeling of high-density structured cabling infrastructure within both data center environments and Internet Service Provider (ISP) network hubs.

This role requires a high degree of craftsmanship, mechanical aptitude, and structural safety. Technicians will build out the physical containment pathways, rack architectures, and fiber/copper cable plants that form the backbone of our critical network infrastructure, working under strict timelines and design standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Pathway & Rack Buildouts (Rough-In)

  • Containment Systems:Install, route, and secure overhead and under-floor cable pathways, including basket trays, ladder racks, and specialized yellow fiber runner systems.
  • Cabinet Fabrication:Assemble, mount, level, and anchor server racks, network enclosures, and structural enclosures—including seismic bracing where required.
  • Grounding & Bonding:Properly ground all racks, ladders, and containment systems to the main facility grounding busbar in compliance with ANSI/TIA-607.

Cable Deployment & High-Density Termination

  • Cable Pulling:Pull backbone and horizontal copper (Cat6A) and fiber optic cabling (Single-mode/Multi-mode) through active pathways without violating minimum bend radius constraints.
  • Termination Mastery:Terminate high-density data connections, including copper jacks, patch panels, 110-blocks, and diverse fiber optic connectors (LC, SC, MPO/MTP).
  • Dressing & Management:Dress, bundle, and comb cables cleanly into network closets and rack elevations using hook-and-loop fasteners (Velcro)—ensuring optimized airflow and zero structural strain on connectors.

Testing, Labeling, & Commissioning

  • Certification Testing:Operate and configure advanced copper and fiber testing equipment (e.g., Fluke DSX-8000, OTDR, optical power meters) to certify link performance and diagnose attenuation issues.
  • Grid Mapping & Labeling:Apply strict, clear alphanumeric sequencing and color-code labels to all cables, faceplates, patch panels, and ports according to ANSI/TIA-606 standards.
  • Racking & Stacking:Assist with the basic physical installation (rack-and-stack) of passive patch panels, network switches, and peripheral hardware components.

Core Evaluation Metrics (Success Criteria)

  • Craftsmanship Quality:Minimal to zero failures on post-installation Fluke/OTDR test sweeps; cables must be bundled cleanly with uniform tension.
  • Labeling Accuracy:100% data entry accuracy across cable management tracking records and physical asset labels.
  • Pace & Project Execution:Consistently hit targeted linear footage metrics for cable pulls and termination counts per shift to keep capital deployment timelines on schedule.

SAFETY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adhere to, promote, and accept personal responsibility for compliance to:

Federal and Local Occupational Safety and Health Regulations
