Support and consistently reinforce the Mission and Core Values of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. An Onsite Material Expeditor is a vital team member in construction operations, tasked with ensuring that the necessary materials, tools, and equipment are available when and where they are needed. This position supports the efficiency of construction workflows, minimizing downtime and delays by coordinating and handling materials transport.

It’s a dynamic, hands‑on role requiring adaptability, excellent time management, and a strong commitment to safety.

NO PERDIEM OR RELOCATION IS AVAILABLE. SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL RESIDE WITHIN 60-MILES OF DECATUR, AL.
FUNCTIONAL DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:

1. Material Delivery and Retrieval:

  • Act as the main point of contact for transporting materials to and from various locations on the job site.
  • Retrieve materials from storage areas, warehouses, or supply trucks and deliver them directly to teams and specific workstations.
  • Coordinate with project supervisors or foremen to prioritize material deliveries based on the project schedule.

2. Inventory Monitoring and Restocking:

  • Conduct regular inventory checks to monitor material levels and anticipate potential shortages.
  • Report any low‑stock items to the project manager or procurement team to ensure timely replenishment.
  • Restock materials or supplies as they are consumed, helping keep the job site organized and efficient.

3. Communication and Team Coordination:

  • Maintain clear and frequent communication with site supervisors, foremen, and crew members to address material needs proactively.
  • Liaison with the procurement team or external suppliers if required to confirm arrival times of ordered items or report any delivery issues.
  • Adapt quickly to schedule changes, adjusting delivery plans to meet evolving site requirements.

4. Equipment Handling and Transport:

  • Operate small machinery, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or utility vehicles, if certified, to assist in transporting heavy or bulky materials safely.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to ensure it’s in safe working condition, reporting any maintenance needs promptly.

5. Job Site Organization and Cleanliness:

  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard‑free environment by returning unused materials to designated storage areas.
  • Help clear away debris or clutter that may obstruct the flow of materials or present hazards.

6. Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all job site safety protocols, ensuring adherence to company safety standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Consistently wear personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, gloves, and steel‑toe boots, and encourage others to do the same.
  • Handle materials in a safe and secure manner, especially hazardous materials, following all relevant handling guidelines.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
  • Prior experience in construction or warehousing, especially in roles involving material handling and inventory management.
  • Certifications in forklift operation or other equipment as required by the job site.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical construction materials and their applications. Specifically pipe, valves, fittings, plumbing, and duct work components.
  • Physical Stamina:
    This role requires long periods of standing, walking, lifting, and carrying materials, often in outdoor environments with varying weather conditions.
  • Organizational

    Skills:

    The ability to keep track of multiple materials and prioritize tasks is essential for maintaining a well‑supplied job site.
  • Strong Communication

    Skills:

    Must be able to communicate effectively with various team members and adapt to any changes in material requirements.
  • Time Management: A knack for managing multiple tasks efficiently to meet tight project deadlines and quickly addressing material shortages or delays.
  • Safety Consciousness: A thorough understanding of site safety standards, PPE requirements, and safe lifting techniques to protect oneself and others on the job.
  • Basic Equipment Knowledge:
