Position Overview
We are seeking a Board-Certified Breast Imaging Radiologist to provide onsite services at a federal medical center in Decatur, Georgia
. This role combines advanced clinical breast imaging (80%) with program leadership and quality oversight (20%), making it ideal for a radiologist who values both subspecialty excellence and professional influence.
You will serve as a key member of a multidisciplinary care team
, working closely with surgeons, oncologists, and primary care physicians to support early detection, diagnosis, and ongoing management of breast disease for a Veteran patient population.
Clinical Responsibilities (80%)
- Interpret breast imaging studies, including:
- Screening and diagnostic mammography
- Breast ultrasound
- Breast MRI
- Perform and guide image-based breast biopsies:
- Ultrasound-guided
- Stereotactic (mammography-guided)
- MRI-guided
- Conduct patient consultations to explain diagnostic findings and care pathways
- Provide clinical consultation to referring providers regarding imaging selection and findings
- Review imaging orders and upcoming cases daily (minimum of two hours)
- Monitor tumor response to treatment and evaluate for recurrence following surgery or radiation
- Provide oversight of the Mammography Program to ensure compliance with:
- ACR
- FDA/VHA
- MQSA standards
- Quarterly Quality Improvement Committee meetings
- Monthly Service Leadership meetings
- Perform peer reviews of clinical cases (approximately four hours per month)
- Report patient safety events within 24 hours using the VA Patient Safety Reporting System
- Ensure accurate documentation of all services in the electronic health record
- MD or DO from an accredited medical school
- Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology (American Board of Radiology)
- Active BLS and ACLS certifications
- Meets MQSA initial and continuing education requirements for mammography interpretation
- Excellent communication skills for patient-facing consultations
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary clinical team
- Strong attention to documentation, peer review, and quality metrics
- Prior experience in a VA or federal healthcare setting
- Fellowship training in Breast Imaging
- Experience leading or overseeing a Mammography Program
- Breast MRI interpretation
- 3D Tomosynthesis
- Proven ability to identify and elevate performance or access concerns
- Monday–Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
- Play a critical role in early breast cancer detection for Veterans
- Deliver high-impact, patient-centered diagnostic care
- Work with state-of-the-art imaging technology, including:
- 3D Tomosynthesis
- Breast MRI
- Advanced interventional techniques
- Spend the majority of your time in direct clinical care
- Direct oversight of a Mammography Program
- Active participation in quality and service leadership initiatives
- Ability to shape clinical standards and patient outcomes
- All 11 federal holidays off
- Credentialing and privileging managed through VETPro
- All IT equipment, radiation badges, and protective gear provided
