Terms of EmploymentThe Board of Education, upon recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint the School Social Worker. The annual period of service shall be 190 days.
Primary FunctionUnder the guidance and leadership of the Superintendent of Equity and Student Services, the School Social Worker acts as a liaison between school, home, and community to ensure delivery of mandated services, other services, and advocacy to students and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provides services to facilitate student attendance and access to education in accordance to FAPE.
- Works collaboratively with students, parents, guardians, and school staff to identify and resolve student needs and issues.
- Makes home visits after consultation with school leaders and/or upon social worker assessment.
- Ensures that the parent or guardian of all students are fully informed of any and all education rights.
- Serves as liaison between school, home, and the community in order to disseminate information and enhance the student's personal and academic growth which may result in referrals to a specialist and/or community agencies for more intensive services.
- Participates in school team meetings, parent/teacher conferences and other student support activities.
- Makes appropriate and reasonable efforts to verify residency of students for school enrollment.
- Utilizes assigned technology to maintain required documentation of services rendered.
- Participates in RTI, parent/teacher conferences and other student support activities.
- Conducts individual, group, and family counseling activities and/or programs to provide student-centered services to assist with adjustment, attendance, academic achievement, and mental health issues.
- Conduct needs assessments and prioritize the activities and services to support the educational needs of all children and youth.
- Collect and maintain data in accordance with the policies and procedures of the district and in compliance with local, state, and Federal laws and regulations.
- Collaborate and coordinate with State Coordinators, community service providers, Title Coordinators, and school personnel responsible for the provision of education and related services for all students.
- Obtain school supplies, clothing, and other helpful resources through community partnerships and distribute them to students and schools.
May supervise student interns.

Education and/or Experience
- Master of Social Work degree
- Valid S-5 Certificate;
Certified School Social Worker - 2 year experience in school social work
Education and/or Experience
- 3 or more Years experience school social work
- Professional licensure in social work or counseling
Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
Physical DemandsThis position may occasionally require non-standard work hours (nights and limited weekends) and the ability to lift and carry files and materials up to 25 pounds. The employee is required to travel to and move freely throughout various school facilities and off site facilities, and to often sit for prolonged periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
