Note:

Plan and supervise the operation of a library; serve as a specialist for reference and materials, or cataloging and classification, in a subject field(s) or special collection(s); plan, coordinate and evaluate library services in a major service/functional area; provide specialized reference services and materials to departmental/program personnel; and perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university. Professional librarian experience can be substituted for education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Must be able to write clear reports, read complex materials, and solve complex problems.
- Two and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional experience in at least one major functional area of librarianship (selection, acquisition, cataloging/classification, collection development/maintenance, reference, or library services promotion).
- At least one year of experience comparable to the next lower level (Librarian III) in the State service.
- Ability to supervise others including planning and directing work, assigning and reviewing work, advising on problems, timing and scheduling, and training employees. If actual supervisory experience is not available, demonstrate aptitude through leadership roles or training courses.
- Work in a library or bookstore that does not involve the application of library‑science principles (e.g., unclassified fiction collections, retail bookstores, library clerical duties, volunteer positions, or internship experiences).
- A master’s degree in library science, or completion of coursework leading to the degree, may substitute for one and one‑half years of professional librarian experience.
- Graduate coursework of up to 15 semester hours may substitute for up to one year of experience.
- A Ph.D. in library science may substitute for all requirements for Librarian IV.
