Building Official

Sumter Local Government Consulting is assisting the City of Decatur, GA, in recruiting a Building Official. The Building Official is a key leader within the City, overseeing permitting, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement to support safe, efficient, and high-quality development throughout the community.

This role balances regulatory compliance with customer-focused service, helping facilitate responsible growth and redevelopment throughout the city.

• Oversee permitting, plan review, inspections, and code enforcement to assure compliance with adopted building standards.
• Work collaboratively across departments and with community stakeholders to improve operational efficiency and support adaptive reuse, redevelopment, and other complex urban development projects.
• Provide expertise in building code administration, permitting, plan review, inspections, and urban development practices.
• Demonstrate strong communication, public engagement, and customer service skills to maintain strong community relationships.
• Maintain technical expertise in Georgia Building Standards, permitting software, and regulatory compliance.
• Support permitting system enhancements and process improvements to streamline plan review and operational efficiency.
• Apply strategic thinking and project management skills to support continuous improvement and organizational goals.
• Serve as a member of the City’s management and performance measurement team.

Salary: $75,000 – $94,000.
