** Description*
* + Performs assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse and/or LPN, including but not limited to: cleaning the patient's room, operating various clinical equipment, helping with emergencies, assisting with patient procedures, collecting and transporting patient specimens and completing applicable forms.

+ Communicates with patients, families and members of the patient care team.

+ Maintains hospital and unit-specific competencies.

+ As part of a patient focused service, promotes a supportive and healing environment so that customer and staff satisfaction are enhanced.

+ Assists in emergency situations as directed by an RN/LPN.

+ Ensures that prescribed measures related to hygiene, comfort, and rest are provided.

+ Complies with Standard Precautions guidelines, Infection Control procedures, and safety standards to maintain and promote a clean and healthy work environment.

+ Assists in the use of bag-valve-mask device, anti-embolism stockings, pneumatic compression stockings, oxygen, suction equipment, incentive spirometer, emergency cart and bedside glucose monitoring machine.

+ Operates converter chair, lifts, scales, beds, stretchers, wheelchairs, non-invasive BP monitors, automatic thermometer, sphygmomanometer, pulse oximeter, and computers.

+ Records patient intake and output.

+ Assists RN/LPN in providing patient care according to individual needs by assisting with range of motion, ambulation, patient transfers, diet, elimination and hygiene.

+ Observes and reports significant or unusual information about the patient and environment to the RN/LPN and documents appropriately and in a timely manner.

+ Transports patients and patient specimens throughout the hospital as needed.

+ Contributes to the completion of patient admission, transfer, and discharge.

+ Assists with postmortem care.

+ Utilizes appropriate technology to complete all related processes.

+ Participates in unit-based and system-wide Performance Improvement program as required by department leadership.

+ Serves as a resource/model through compliance with standards of care and with Department of Nursing and Hospital policies and procedures.

+ May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas.

+ Participates in the orientation of nursing support assistants to the unit.

+ Performs other related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

+ A high school diploma or equivalent.

+ BLS required.

+ Must meet one of the following requirements:

1. One year of direct patient care experience,

2. Successful completion of a nursing assistant training course

3. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license through State of Georgia, OR

4. Current enrollment in a nursing program and completion of 2 clinical rotations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(Medium-Heavy) 36-75lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly);
Lifting 75lbs max;
Carrying of objects up to 35lbs;
Occasional to frequent standing & walking;
Occasional sitting;
Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing);
Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
