Salary Range: $19.00 - $29.93/hour depending on experience FLSA:
Non-Exempt
This classification is safety sensitive, subject to random drug testing in accordance with the County’s Drug & Alcohol Policy.
Essential FunctionsDeKalb County Government is seeking experienced CDL Drivers for Automated Side Loader (ASL) and Rear Loader opportunities within Solid Waste Management.
Operates rear-loading, automated, semi-automated, and other heavy trucks and equipment to collect and transport solid waste along assigned routes; positions vehicles for safe and efficient collection, loading, and dumping of materials; operates truck-mounted mechanisms to collect, secure, and compact solid waste; monitors collection activities to ensure timely route completion; ensures loads are properly balanced, covered, secured, and contained; monitors the work environment to ensure the safety of employees, equipment, and the public;
obeys all traffic laws, safety guidelines, and operating procedures; performs vehicle inspections and basic equipment maintenance; and performs manual refuse collection and other related duties as required.
High school diploma or GED preferred; one year of experience operating heavy equipment and/or driving and operating heavy trucks; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Specific License or Certification RequiredMust possess and maintain a valid Georgia Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Some assignments may require a Class A CDL and/or special endorsements.
- Classification and placement will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, applicable experience, and the requirements of the position.
- Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a valid 12-month DOT Medical Blue Card as a condition of employment for some departments.
