Trade Compliance Specialist - Decatur, IL Job Responsibilities
Audits, Controls & Continuous Improvement
- Support external customs audits
- Conduct internal reviews to assess effectiveness and drive corrective and preventive actions.
Broker & Declarations Oversight
- Maintain the master list of customs brokers and Powers of Attorney.
- Obtain and analyze declaration data from brokers; identify risks and opportunities.
Classification, Valuation & Compliance Operations
- Oversee accurate HS classification and customs valuation
- Ensure compatibility of business strategies with CETC and regulatory requirements (US and relevant Canada cross-border trade).
Country of Origin (CoO) & FTA
- Resolve historical origin/FTA issues and implement preventive measures (USMCA and other FTA)
Special Projects & Program Implementation
- Support CETC special projects and drive regional implementation across US and Canada operations.
- Identify opportunities for new CETC projects to enhance compliance and efficiency.
Systems & Data
- Support data analytics for trade KPIs and compliance dashboards.
- Strong knowledge of customs legislation with a focus on North America (incl’ Canada)
- Proven experience in trade compliance and internal and external auditing.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex trade data and regulations.
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision and drive initiatives to completion.
- Efficient communicator (written and verbal), adept at stakeholder management and training non-experts.
- Extensive digital literacy; proficient in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and collaboration tools.
- Professional English language skills.
- The TCS has a relevant university degree or higher, supplemented by relevant professional training.
- The TCS has at least 7 years active experience as a customs specialist, working in a large or medium-sized company. Previous roles should include the filing of customs and excise declarations, internal auditing, data processing, and reporting.
- The TCS will be working in the corporate Customs & Excise Trade Compliance function of the ADM organization.
- The TCS reports to the Sr. Manager CETC Canada
ADM requires the successful completion of a background check.
