Part-Time, Non-Exempt, $15/hour POSITION FOCUS
Responsible for serving as a group leader for the day camp activities and programs held at the assigned day camp site director.
SUPERVISORY RELATIONSHIPSReports to the DISC Assistant Manager, Day Camp Site Director and the Assistant Day Camp Site Director
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES- Assists in creating an activity agenda for the day camp group for which the employee is directly responsible
- Assists in organizing and structuring large and small group activities
- Sets up and participates in day camp activities
- Cleans up after activities and at the end of the day
- Maintains head counts of campers in the morning, at swim times, and throughout the day
- Hands out snacks, as directed
- Supervises campers and is present on the pool deck and in the water during swim times
- Notifies the Day Camp Director and/or Day Camp Assistant Director of problems or concerns with individual campers or staff members
- Administers first aid to staff and campers, as needed
- Attends required meetings and trainings
- Attends work on a regular basis
- Performs the job safely and in compliance with District policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment
- Additional functions may be essential
- Organizes and maintains camp supplies in an orderly fashion
- Notifies the Day Camp Director or Day Camp Assistant Director of any potentially dangerous or unsafe equipment or situations
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Basic knowledge of day camp programs
- Capacity to perform CPR and first aid, when required
- Ability to respond to inquiries and requests received from the general public
- Capacity to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers
- Good knowledge of pertinent safety precautions
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees, children and the general public
- Ability to work with general direction from immediate supervisor
- Capacity to work and maintain composure in periods of high activity and in emergency situations
- Capacity to follow through on tasks to completion
Ability to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with supervisors and co-workers - Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work
- Capacity to be self-motivated and achieve assigned goals
- Ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations
- Ability to follow directions and communicate in English verbally and in writing
- Ability to read and understand materials printed in English
- Capacity to proactively resolve problems, if authorized to do so, or to refer problems to immediate supervisor
- High school student, high school graduate or G.E.D.
- Previous experience in a child care setting or supervising children's activities or programs preferred
- Minimum age of 16 is required
- Must be 21 with a valid driver's license to drive Park District vehicles
- Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience and training
- CPR (Infant, Child and Adult) and First Aid Certification
- Monday through Friday, 6 to 8 hours a day, with work hours designated by the Recreation Supervisor
- Overtime, as needed

- Exposure to noise distractions from participants and other employees in adjacent work areas
- Exposure to various chemicals as used in routine maintenance
- Infrequent exposure to craft supplies (e.g., paints, glue)
- Exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures
- Protective clothing and equipment is required as it pertains to the particular job duty:
- Microshield
- Latex gloves
- Sunscreen
- Hat and sunglasses
