Job Description:
Richland Community College is seeking part-time tutors for our Academic Success Center on campus. Tutors will assist students with English, Math, Reading, Biology, Economics, Physics, and Nursing. Hours and days will vary.
Recruitment Details
This is a continuous recruitment (pool) posting. Candidates may not be contacted until there is a current need. Hours vary from semester to semester based on assignment, including irregular hours, evenings, and possibly weekends. Salary will be commensurate with education level.
Responsibilities
- Provide in-person and/or online tutoring in assigned academic areas.
- Maintain a quiet learning environment.
- Complete required documentation and trainings.
- Use college‑approved systems such as Zoom to provide online tutoring services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in math, reading, writing, biology, chemistry, or other specified academic area.
- Strong interpersonal skills to work with individuals of various abilities, ages, and needs.
- Math tutors must have taken college‑level Calculus I (or higher) and passed with a grade of C or better.
- Content knowledge in area of expertise and any other course knowledge needed for a specific subject.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher.
- Classroom instruction and/or tutoring experience.
Physical Demands
- Operate teaching and learning aids used during tutoring sessions.
- Receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information effectively.
- Spend prolonged periods standing or sitting while working with individual students or in a group setting.
- Relate positively to all students.
