The Elementary Physical Education Teacher is responsible for delivering a comprehensive, standards-aligned physical education program for students in grades K–6. This role focuses on developing students’ physical literacy, promoting lifelong wellness, and fostering social-emotional skills through movement, teamwork, and structured play. The teacher creates an inclusive, engaging environment where all students can develop motor skills, fitness, and positive attitudes toward physical activity.
Job Qualifications:Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field
- Valid Indiana teaching license in Physical Education
- Experience teaching elementary-aged students (K–6)
- Knowledge of best practices in physical education and student engagement
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Physical Education.
- Design lessons that build fundamental motor skills, coordination, fitness, and game strategies.
- Incorporate social-emotional learning, teamwork, and sportsmanship into daily instruction.
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including students with disabilities and varying skill levels.
- Assess student progress using a variety of formative and summative measures.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and families.
- Use data to inform instruction and support continuous student improvement.
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies in gymnasium and outdoor settings.
- Ensure proper use, care, and organization of equipment and facilities.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
- Participate in professional learning communities and district initiatives.
- Support school-wide events, wellness initiatives, and extracurricular activities as appropriate.
- Maintain a safe physical environment and enforce safety protocols.
- Monitor student health needs and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity beyond the classroom.
- Strong instructional design and classroom management skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills.
- Enthusiasm for promoting lifelong fitness and wellness.
- Ability to teach in gymnasiums, outdoor spaces, and occasionally classrooms
- Ability to participate in physical activity, including demonstrating exercises and games.
- Ability to lift and move equipment as needed
