Qualifications

Illinois State certificate for secondary level teaching.
Bachelor's Degree.
Ability to function effectively as a member of the school staff.
Other requirements as established by the Board.

Reporting Structure

Reports To:

Secondary Building Principal.
Supervises:
Students, Student Teachers, Volunteers; assists Principal with evaluation of Teaching Assistants.
Maintains liaison with:
Parents.

Job Goal

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

Performance Responsibilities

Teaching in compliance with curricular requirements of the State and Board of Education District 61.

Remaining current on research, new developments and literature on education, especially elementary and/or special assignment.

Compliance with Board Policies, Administrative Regulations, and Board-Employee Agreements at the school level.

Participation in curriculum development process at building and district levels.

Participation in development of District Policies and Administrative Regulations on an appointive, elective, or volunteer basis.

Instructional delivery – using principles of learning and appropriate instructional techniques.

Human skills – stimulate students, bring enthusiasm, and care for worth and dignity of each individual.

Planning skills – develop goals/objectives for content and skills based on evaluation of student needs, aptitude, and learning styles.

Evaluation of students and programs – using diagnostic, criterion‑reference, and achievement tests; maintain and interpret records for stakeholders.

Classroom management – control and structure learning environment so students adhere to rules and acquire self‑discipline.

Resource utilization – use available academic and human resources within and outside the educational plant.

Terms of Employment

Salary is based on Schedules A & B of the collective negotiated Agreement.

Evaluation

Employees with continuing contractual service are evaluated at least once every two years. Employees not in continuing contractual service are evaluated once every year.

Physical Demands

Work involves interacting with people and objects in a general setting. Requires depth perception, field of vision, bending, stooping, twisting, turning, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, carrying, pulling, pushing, climbing, kneeling, walking and standing approximately 50‑75% of each shift. Must distinguish sound differences and differentiate tones and volumes in conversation.

Mental Demands

The teacher must ensure continuous supervision of children and be prepared to handle multiple concurrent situations, including accidents and emergencies at any time.

Work Environment

The teacher will work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment with multiple activities occurring simultaneously, requiring constant supervision of all students.
