Richland Community College is seeking applicants for the Full-Time HVAC Technology Instructor (Tenure-Track) position. The tenure-track faculty member is responsible for planning, preparing, implementing, teaching, and evaluating classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of HVAC Technology. The successful candidate will use a learner-centered approach to teaching that incorporates active learning strategies and techniques to enhance student learning. The position will require updating curriculum to reflect changing technologies in the industry and in education.
Responsibilities- Formulate course goals and objectives for each class and lab (if applicable)
- Organize and recommend course content
- Recommend teaching methods
- Recommend textbook and other teaching materials
- Plan classroom and lab (if applicable) assignments
- Create examinations
- Conduct classroom instruction using other methods of instruction, in addition to lecture
- Provide feedback to students regarding their performance within a reasonable period of time
- Participate in curriculum development and evaluation including planning, implementation, and evaluation of a course or learning level
- Provide current, organized instruction in classroom and other teaching environments (if applicable) utilizing sound, comprehensive principles
- Supervise and evaluate student learning in the classroom and other teaching environments (as applicable)
- Cooperate and collaborate with other college divisions to meet students’ learning needs and objectives
- Provide a climate that is conducive for learning for students
- Participate in college, division, program, and course assessment activities for programs, courses, and institutional initiatives, including recommendations of goals, methods, and quality indicators
- Participate in division meetings
- Associate’s degree in HVAC/R Technology or closely related field and one (1) year of industry experience; OR
- Five (5) years of recent experience in the HVAC/R field
- EPA Section 608 Certification required (or must obtain within a specified timeframe)
- Recent experience in residential and commercial HVAC/R systems
- Knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and troubleshooting techniques
- Experience with refrigeration systems and EPA compliance standards
- Familiarity with building automation systems and energy management systems
- Industry certifications (e.g., NATE, HVAC Excellence, or similar)
- Teaching or training experience in HVAC or related technical field
- Experience teaching in lab-based, online, or hybrid environments
- Experience with curriculum development and outcomes assessment
- Experience using learning management systems such as Canvas
- Ability to integrate multimedia and hands‑on instructional technologies
- Experience working with diverse student populations in a community college setting
- Operate standard office equipment such as phone and computer on a frequent basis
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products
- Receive, process, and provide visual and verbal information, including electronic communications
- Be available for occasional irregular hours and travel
- Must be able to work effectively in stressful situations
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
Salary range: $44,738-$95,241 per year
