Educational Responsibilities
CIP licensed teachers provide special direction to students who are eligible for an Individualized Education Program (IEP). The teacher should be committed to helping students by offering support to overcome practical obstacles to their learning.
Students with moderate to severe disabilities have significant needs that impact their performance on school tasks and needs that are very different from other children of the same age. Students will be evaluated in performance areas like cognition, communication, motor ability, adaptive behavior, and social and emotional skills. Identifying specific challenges in these areas prevents students from making progress in the general curriculum.
- Develop each student’s annual IEP and maintain it throughout the year
- Facilitate lessons in a manner that will be effective
- Provide support for students academically
- Prepare lessons with the needs of the learners in mind
- Design activities to achieve the learning objectives of the students
- Respect students and treat them with compassion and understanding
- Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment
- Collaborate with school administrators, other teachers, and parents
- Organize supplies, resources and equipment
- Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning opportunities
- Ensure your classroom is clean and orderly
- Establish and maintain a positive line of communication with the parents concerning behavior, language and academics
- Prepare and distribute progress reports, grade reports, and semester reports
- Schedule, attend, and prepare for case conference meetings
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Track growth data for your students and be ready to discuss the data with the case conference committee
- Show commitment and professionalism through attendance, punctuality, and standards with professional responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality
- Make positive contributions to the culture and climate of the MSD of Decatur Township
- Caring nature while teaching the students
- Good observing skills and learning the behavioral patterns of children
- Good communication skills that help in interacting with the parents
- Addressing the needs and requirements of children with skillful attention
- Expert in developing various behavioral plans
- Maintaining comfortable classroom environment
- Efficient in using visuals to support teaching methodologies
- Knowledge about using transition methods that help students to move from one subject to another
- Key soft skills such as patience, interpersonal communication, empathy, organization, etc are needed
