Duties
- Plans and implements a range of teaching programs or courses of study.
- Provides a child safe environment in accordance with the child safe standards.
- Teaches an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level.
- Monitors, evaluates, and reports student progress in key learning areas.
- Implements strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.
- Maintains records of class attendance and records student progress in the school selected data tool.
- Implements effective student management consistent with the school handbook.
- Establishes an organized and welcoming classroom.
- Participates in professional learning activities to maintain teacher certification and expand personal growth in knowledge, skills, and practices.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of students, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
- Remains available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day, such as parent teacher conferences.
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned by the building administrators.
- Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) for the position and required endorsement.
- Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets MS Office and Google.
- Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
- Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
