HSE Professional – Utility-Scale Solar Project

We are currently seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Professional to support a large-scale utility solar project in Tazewell County, IL. This role will serve in an Owner’s Representative capacity, ensuring all health, safety, and environmental standards are met throughout the construction lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on electrical safety during the interconnection phase.
This is a hands‑on leadership role for a safety professional who is confident working directly with EPC contractors, field leadership, and project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental Oversight- Enforce site safety programs in compliance with OSHA and project‑specific requirements
- Oversee lockout/tagout procedures, trenching and excavation safety, and electrical safety protocols
- Monitor crane operations and high‑risk electrical activities
- Serve as the primary on‑site HSE point of contact
- Partner with contractors to ensure adherence to safety standards and corrective actions
- Conduct and/or coordinate safety training, inspections, and audits
- Maintain site‑specific safety plans, permits, and documentation
- Lead incident reporting and corrective action tracking
- Provide regular safety performance updates, incident reporting, and compliance metrics to senior HSE leadership
- Support contractor staffing coordination and collaborate with project controls on staffing and budget considerations
- Several years of HSE experience, preferably on utility‑scale solar or power generation projects
- Strong electrical safety background, particularly during project connection and commissioning phases
- Solid understanding of trenching, excavation, and construction safety best practices
- Experience working in an Owner’s Representative or management‑level safety role
- OSHA Certification: OSHA 30, OSHA 500/510, or CHST required
- Self‑starter with the ability to work independently and proactively identify safety risks
- Utility‑scale experience and a calm, confident leadership style strongly preferred
- Travel requirements to be confirmed
- Position is site‑based during active construction
This is an opportunity to play a key safety leadership role on a major renewable energy project, working at the owner level and directly influencing site safety culture and outcomes.
