A long‑standing, privately owned manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Senior Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support onsite operations at a Class I, Division 2 production facility located near the Chicago Midway Airport
. This senior‑level individual contributor role requires strong technical expertise in regulatory compliance, Process Safety Management (PSM), and safety leadership across a fast‑paced industrial environment.
The ideal candidate brings deep regulatory knowledge, strong influencing skills, and the ability to partner effectively with leaders, engineers, and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance & EHS Program Management- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive EHS programs that comply with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements.
- Oversee compliance for manufacturing and laboratory operations, including hazardous waste (RCRA), air emissions, industrial hygiene, occupational health, and related environmental programs.
- Serve as the primary site lead for OSHA PSM activities.
- Maintain and continually improve all 14 PSM elements in collaboration with Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams.
- Lead the full incident investigation process, ensuring effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts focused on hazard mitigation and prevention.
- Champion a proactive safety culture by leading the site's safety team and serving as program lead for the behavioral‑based safety initiative.
- Conduct training, audits, and coaching to reinforce best practices.
- Assess workplace hazards, manage PPE requirements, evaluate usage, and oversee PPE procurement and inventory in alignment with OSHA standards.
- Ensure employees and contractors receive all required safety and environmental training.
- Partner with department leaders to identify training needs, approve training resources, and maintain compliant training documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental, health, and safety or related field
- Experience working on a chemical manufacturing site or in a PSM regulated facility
