Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 4.
The work will be done onsite full-time in Decatur, IL
. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $50/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
The Mechanical Engineer 4 will provide advanced design and development support for complex drivetrain and rotating mechanical systems used in large industrial equipment. This role focuses on both new product development and resolution of field and factory issues, requiring strong mechanical aptitude and critical‑thinking skills. The engineer will collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design, analyze, and implement technical solutions. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer seeking technically challenging work with high impact.
Key Responsibilities- Research, design, develop, and validate mechanical components and systems
- Support root‑cause investigations and design solutions for field and production issues
- Create and release detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using Creo
- Analyze specifications, design proposals, and technical documentation for feasibility
- Support new product development, manufacturing issues, and supplier technical needs
- Participate in FMEA, APQP, and PPAP activities
- Collaborate with domestic and international engineering and manufacturing teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 8–10+ years of mechanical engineering experience
- Strong mechanical aptitude with rotating component design experience
- Advanced ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings
- Proficiency with CAD tools, specifically Creo modeling and drawings
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and critical‑thinking skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑based environment
- Experience with drivetrain components such as transmissions, differentials, brakes, or torque converters
- Understanding of design, manufacturing, and assembly of rotating components
- Experience supporting both new product development and field issue resolution
- Familiarity with structured quality and design processes
