Design Engineer III – Simulation
Mueller Water Products is the nation’s leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries and has an immediate opening for a Design Engineer III – Simulation. The role involves independently performing finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to support the design, validation, and optimization of mechanical components and assemblies across Mueller’s product lines.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Independently perform FEA and CFD analyses, including model setup, meshing, boundary condition definition, solving, and post‑processing.
- Evaluate mechanical components and assemblies subjected to static and dynamic loading, thermal effects, pressure, and flow conditions.
- Apply established modeling practices and methodologies to standard and moderately complex simulation problems.
- Support design decisions by delivering clear, well‑documented analysis results to design, manufacturing, and project teams.
- Produce formal engineering analysis reports for internal use, documenting assumptions, methods, limitations, and conclusions.
- Support work in regulated or quality‑critical applications, including products used in nuclear, BPVC, and energy/power generation markets.
- Contribute to design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) sessions with cross‑functional teams.
- May provide peer input or informal review of simulation work performed by others.
- Identify and communicate technical risks related to simulation results.
- Support continuous improvement of simulation standards, best practices, and workflow efficiency.
- Strong communication and technical presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Sound engineering judgment within known modeling frameworks.
