Manufacturing Engineer / Project Engineer
Job DescriptionThis role focuses on applying engineering theory and principles to optimize industrial layouts and manufacturing production processes. The Manufacturing Engineer / Project Engineer analyzes workflows, develops standards, and enhances efficiency while ensuring quality and reliability. The position involves creating and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, using computer-aided design tools, and collaborating closely with engineering and leadership teams to support continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities- Study time, motion, methods, and speeds involved in maintenance, production, and other operations to establish standard production rates and improve overall efficiency.
- Interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, and formulas, and collaborate with management and engineering staff to determine appropriate quality and reliability standards.
- Review worker logs, product processing sheets, and specification sheets to verify that records adhere to quality assurance standards.
- Assist in planning work assignments based on worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and anticipated delays to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, material handling, and machine utilization.
- Observe workers using equipment to verify that equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with quality assurance standards.
- Observe workers operating equipment or performing tasks, using timing devices to determine time involved and fatigue rates.
- Evaluate collected data and write detailed reports to validate existing standards or indicate deviations that require corrective action.
- Create sketches and engineering drawings to support layout, process improvements, and production changes.
- Use computer applications and engineering software, including Computer Aided Design (CAD), to model, analyze, and document manufacturing processes.
- Strong creativity, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to manufacturing and layout challenges.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey technical information and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
- Proven analytical and problem‑solving ability to evaluate processes, identify inefficiencies, and implement improvements.
- Ability to make accurate sketches, engineering drawings, and common engineering computations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer‑generated reports.
- Previous experience using computer applications and software related to the engineering field, including Computer Aided Design (CAD).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
- Approximately 5–7 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering or closely related engineering role.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a manufacturing engineering environment, with exposure to industrial layouts and production processes.
- Familiarity with quality assurance practices and standards in a manufacturing setting.
- Comfort preparing visual documentation such as charts, graphs, and diagrams to communicate process information and performance metrics.
- Strong attention to detail and a team‑oriented mindset, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Ability to balance multiple priorities such as production schedules, machine capacity, and workforce performance when planning assignments.
This position operates in a manufacturing environment in Pontiac, IL, within a large‑scale production facility. The role involves frequent interaction with production areas, machinery, and material handling equipment, as well as time spent in an office or engineering space for analysis and documentation. You will regularly use Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other engineering software tools, along with timing devices and standard office applications.
