Aboutthe Role
The Engineer II supports microbial fermentation and downstream processes at pilot and demonstration scales, driving process robustness, manufacturing readiness, technology transfer, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role requires strong customer‑service mindset and deep technical expertise in industrial biotechnology and biomanufacturing unit operations.
- Client Program Execution – Participate in customer technical discussions, project kickoff meetings, development of project execution plans, manufacturing readiness assessments, coordinate across operations, quality, engineering, and supply‑chain teams, and provide technical updates, project risks, timelines, and milestones to stakeholders.
- Technology Transfer – Participate in transferring fermentation processes from customers into the manufacturing facility, review process descriptions, batch records, analytical methods, and process development reports, support customer onboarding and engineering evaluations.
- Process Support – Provide technical support during seed train, fermentation, harvest, and downstream operations, monitor process performance, evaluate key process indicators, investigate deviations, and identify corrective actions.
- Process Improvement – Analyze process data, identify opportunities for optimization, recommend process improvements, support continuous improvement initiatives, and participate in process development and engineering studies.
- Engineering and Facility Support – Collaborate on fermentation equipment, utilities, and process control systems, support commissioning, qualification, and startup activities, assist in equipment selection and process design reviews, evaluate facility readiness for new customer programs, and implement new technologies and manufacturing capabilities.
- Compliance and Documentation – Author and review batch records, SOPs, process descriptions, technical reports, change controls, and validation documents, ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, quality, and safety requirements, and maintain complete and accurate manufacturing records.
- Process Ownership & Optimization – Take technical ownership of multiple unit operations, ensuring process efficiency, reliability, and alignment with safety and quality standards, and identify and implement improvements to optimize energy, material usage, and production efficiency.
- Engineering Assignments & Project Management – Manage engineering assignments, including process studies, system optimizations, and capital projects, oversee project execution from scope development and budgeting to procurement and implementation, and resolve programming issues and logic improvements.
- Technical Troubleshooting & Support – Provide key support for troubleshooting process upsets, assist with start‑ups and shutdowns, conduct root‑cause analysis, and drive corrective actions and process reliability improvements.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Work with equipment SMEs, procurement, vendors, and corporate engineering to design and troubleshoot processes, benchmark performance across sites, and share best practices.
- Performance Monitoring & Decision‑Making – Monitor plant performance, track and communicate KPIs to operators and leadership, recommend process adjustments based on data analysis, and develop independent solutions to address process pain points.
