Position SummarySenior Engineer – Configurator Systems Integration (Decatur, IL)
In this role, you will support the Large Wheel Loader, Wheel Dozer, and Compactor product lines within Caterpillar Resource Industries Operations and Products Division. Your primary focus will be on integration engineering for the 995 and 993 machine platforms. You will serve as a key technical leader responsible for defining system architecture, integrating complex configurations, and ensuring seamless interaction between mechanical, electrical, and digital components.
This position is instrumental in bringing new product technologies to life and translating concepts into scalable, production‑ready solutions while driving alignment across engineering, manufacturing, and product teams.
- Research and develop design parameters, performance characteristics, and technical specifications of new products and components.
- Guide the evolution of the technical design, technical project planning, performance analysis, and development testing.
- Participate in supplier selection and capabilities assessment.
- Monitor, explore, and test new technologies, materials, and components to understand product or process improvement opportunities.
- Construct and fabricate prototype equipment; oversee material selection, process optimization, process yield, and reliability testing and failure analysis.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field.
- Business Process Improvement:
Applies BPI methodologies to identify inefficiencies, define processes, and support implementation of streamlined, more effective business operations. - Planning (Tactical, Strategic):
Contributes to operational and tactical planning by tracking progress, adapting to changes, and ensuring alignment with short‑ and mid‑term business objectives. - Quality Management:
Supports quality objectives by applying continuous improvement principles, adhering to standards, and utilizing quality tools to evaluate and enhance outcomes. - Analytical Thinking:
Leverages advanced analytical techniques to identify root causes, evaluate risks and trade‑offs, and develop data‑driven solutions to complex problems. - Effective Communications:
Communicates clearly and professionally through written and verbal channels, delivering feedback, adapting messaging, and interpreting both verbal and non‑verbal cues. - Problem Solving:
Identifies, analyzes, and resolves issues using structured problem‑solving methods, balancing stakeholder perspectives and evaluating solution alternatives. - Systems Thinking:
Analyzes interdependencies within systems to diagnose root causes, optimize performance, and implement solutions that align resources to business outcomes.
- Experience in heavy equipment, mining equipment, or complex manufacturing industries.
- Proven experience in systems integration engineering, configuration engineering, or complex product development environments.
- Strong understanding of system architecture, system interdependencies, and integration methodologies (Systems Thinking).
- Hands‑on experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems and product configuration platforms.
- Working knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.).
- Experience with prototyping, system testing, validation, and verification processes to ensure product quality and reliability.
