Laser Technician – CNC Fiber Laser (1st Shift)
Location: Decatur, IL (On-site)
Schedule: Monday–Friday | 1st Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time
AboutThe Role
Align Production Systems is looking for a skilled Laser Technician to run and support production on our CNC fiber laser equipment. This role is hands‑on and focused on producing high‑quality parts from mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum in a clean, organized manufacturing environment.

Bystronic fiber laser experience is a strong plus.
What You’ll Be Doing- Operate a CNC fiber optic laser to cut parts to print and customer specifications
- Set up jobs by verifying material, thickness, and correct programs
- Load and unload material using overhead cranes, magnets, forklifts, or hoists
- Perform in‑process quality checks to ensure accuracy and cut quality
- Complete secondary operations such as deburring, cleaning, and part prep
- Work with Engineering or Programming to improve nesting and optimize programs when needed
- Identify and address defects or nonconforming parts
- Accurately track labor and production activity
- Maintain a safe, organized workspace using 5S/6S standards
- Support continuous improvement efforts and collaborate with the fabrication team
- Assist other production areas as needed (fabrication, welding, assembly, paint, etc.)
- Occasionally support customer field service work when required
- Experience operating CNC equipment (laser, plasma, press brake, punch, waterjet, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions
- Comfortable using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, basic inspection tools)
- Computer skills and familiarity with CNC programs or production systems
- Ability to work independently, manage time, and meet production schedules
- Strong commitment to safety and quality
- Experience with Bystronic lasers
- Familiarity with nesting software or CNC program support
- Experience working with steel, aluminum, and stainless in a fabrication environment
Physical Requirements
- On‑your‑feet role in a manufacturing environment
- Regular interaction with moving machinery, cranes, forklifts, and hoists
- Ability to lift or move materials with mechanical assistance
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear)
