Job Title:

Manufacturing Test Technician)

Job Description

This role serves as a hands-on Manufacturing Test Technician. You will support multiple heavy machinery product lines by quickly addressing test-related issues so that test engineers can focus on new product development and major process changes. The position requires strong low-voltage electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to read and work from electrical schematics, and basic computer proficiency. You will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

+ Serve as the first line of response on the factory floor for test-related issues across multiple heavy machinery product lines.

+ Respond to radio calls and immediately troubleshoot test problems, primarily involving electrical issues such as cabling between computers and machinery and software delivery through the PSP system.

+ Diagnose and repair low-voltage (24V) electrical systems using a meter to identify and resolve faults.

+ Read and interpret electrical schematics and prints to build and repair wiring harnesses, typically involving 5-6 wire configurations.

+ Construct additional wiring harnesses and complete assigned tasks when not actively responding to radio calls.

+ Use a personal computer to access email, Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, and other software tools for communication, documentation, and basic navigation of proprietary systems.

+ Document issues, corrections, and work performed clearly and accurately to support continuous improvement of testing processes.

+ Participate in occasional meetings to provide detailed reports on recurring issues, corrective actions, and recommendations.

+ Maintain strong organizational habits to manage multiple concurrent tasks, including radio calls and project work, while tracking progress and priorities.

+ Continuously learn and apply company-specific schematics, processes, and basic hydraulic and mechanical concepts relevant to the test environment.

+ Collaborate with test engineers, other First Responders, and union team members to ensure smooth, efficient, and safe test operations on the factory floor.

+ Support rotating coverage needs as part of a small test team that operates in alignment with a 365-day factory schedule.

Essential Skills

+ Strong understanding of low-voltage (24V) electrical systems and their application in a manufacturing test environment.

+ Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical schematics and prints to build and repair wiring harnesses.

+ Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical systems using a meter to diagnose and resolve issues quickly and accurately.

+ Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to learn and navigate proprietary software such as the PSP system after training.

+ Comfort using standard office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Microsoft Teams, for communication and documentation.

+ Exceptional attention to detail to prevent errors such as incorrect wire placement or misconfigured harnesses.

+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including responding to radio calls and completing assigned projects.

+ Ability to track work progress effectively, such as using a notepad or similar method to prioritize and complete tasks.

+ Willingness and aptitude to learn new information daily, including company-specific schematics and basic hydraulic and mechanical concepts.

+ Ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment with frequent new challenges and evolving priorities.

+ Comfort working primarily on the factory floor in a hands-on, technical role supporting heavy machinery testing.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+ Mechanical aptitude, including familiarity with mechanical systems, is preferred.

+ Exposure to or interest in pneumatic or hydraulic systems is an advantage and can be developed on the job.

+ Background in mechanical engineering or hands-on mechanical experience is a plus.

+ Previous experience with test equipment or test engineering environments is beneficial.

+ Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial setting supporting heavy equipment or large machinery is advantageous.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility that supports multiple heavy machinery product lines, including large trucks. Approximately 80-90% of your time will be spent on the factory floor in a fast-paced, hands-on environment, responding to live issues and working directly with equipment, wiring, and test stations. You will use test equipment, low-voltage (24V) electrical systems, wiring harnesses, and meters as part of daily troubleshooting and repair activities.

Computer work is integrated into floor activities, with occasional desk time for email, documentation, and participation in virtual or in-person meetings using tools such as Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook. You will work as part of a small,…
