PAY RATE: $15.75 - $18.53 Hourly

We do this through programs designed to combat homelessness and hunger, provide safe spaces for youth after school and on the weekends, achieve and maintain sobriety, and give hope to the hopeless.
The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need.
Responsible for aiding the supervision and direction of the educational, recreational, and developmental programs at The Salvation Army Community Center and related programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Assist in planning focused day camp activities/programs and field trips
- Supervise youth volunteers - guide them to perform tasks correctly, be on time, and maintain appropriate interaction with program attendees
- Chaperone field trips/outings
- Participate in activities with youth inside and outside
- Help with meals and snacks, as needed
- Keep accurate records for statistics and licensing procedures as needed
- Drive official vehicles for programming
- Attend staff meetings
- Assist in organizing events including performances, project demonstrations, and family events
- Sign children in and out for the day
- Help maintain cleanliness of used areas, enlisting help of other staff/volunteers
- Communicate any concerns with the Community Center Director and/or Youth Program Coordinator and/or Corps Officer
- Understand and adhere to Safe from Harm policies
- Other duties as assigned
- Successfully satisfy the training requirements associated to the position and as required by The Salvation Army.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESEducation: High School diploma; equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Knowledgeable or degree in area of education, child development, or related field or equivalent work experience with youth activity and programming.
Experience: Individuals must be at least 18 years old and have knowledge and work experience related to child development and programming for middle school youth with preferred experience with STEAM programming. Ability to work with other adults in a team as well as with children.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including positive interpersonal skills and ability to work as a cooperative team member.
- Ability to independently understand and follow simple instructions.
- Attention to detail and a high level of confidentiality
- Ability to multi-task several projects concurrently
- Interest and ability to work with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a respectful manner
- Proficiency in computer software applications, including MS Office and email
- Resources of The Salvation Army will be committed only if allocated or approved.
- Adherence to all policies and procedures; keep the designated supervisor informed of critical issues.
- Moderate physical work; occasionally heavier.
- Regular use of standard office equipment; may involve public presentations/interactions.
- Office environment with a low to moderate noise level.
- Must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position. A valid MVR is required.
- This position reports to the designated supervisor.
- Will interact with a wide range of internal and external contacts; acts as a representative of The Salvation Army and its mission.
- Evaluation based on achievement of outcomes, timeliness, and accuracy of goals; information reviewed during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.
This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
