Overview
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Acute Dialysis position at a Level II Trauma center in Decatur, IL, requiring a minimum of 1 year of acute care inpatient dialysis experience and an active IL RN license.
Responsibilities- Acute care inpatient hospital setting with a 2-room, 4-bed dialysis unit
- Average daily census of 3–6 patients
- Patient population includes acute renal failure, acute kidney injury (AKI), hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis cases
- Specialized skills required: administration of blood/blood products, Mannitol/albumin/23.4% NaCl, AV graft and fistula cannulation, tunneled/non-tunneled catheter management, and peritoneal catheter care
- Equipment experience required on
B. Braun Dialog machine - Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
- Schedule is 4x10-hour day shifts, 7:00–17:30
- On-call required: 2–3 overnight calls per week; every third Saturday with on-call coverage through Monday at 07:00; 1-hour response time required for emergent cases only
- Sundays are closed with only the on-call nurse available
- Works every other weekend
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
- Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
- Candidates who have been a permanent or PRN employee of the Memorial Hospital System must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
- Travel pairs are not accepted
- Must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- RTO requests of up to 5 days are generally accommodated; anything beyond 5 days requires facility approval

- 13-week contract
- Active Illinois (IL) RN license required — must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of acute care inpatient dialysis experience required
- BLS required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted)
- ACLS preferred
- Active licenses and certifications must be current at the time of consideration
- Experience with acute renal failure, AKI, hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis required

B. Braun Dialog dialysis equipment required - Skills required:
blood flow rate (Qb) and dialysate flow rate (Qd) management, vascular access malfunction, venous pressure monitoring, and machine alarm troubleshooting (arterial pressure, blood leak detector, conductivity, venous pressure alarms) - Symptom management experience required: hypotension, fluid overload, hyperkalemia, cardiac arrest, seizures, disequilibrium syndrome, pyrogenic reaction, air emboli, and others
- Professional skills required: airway management, blood glucose monitoring, and infection control
- Cerner EMR experience preferred
- Teaching hospital, community hospital, and Trauma Level I or II experience preferred
