Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Neuro RN for a Level II Trauma acute care hospital, requiring an active IL license, 2+ years' experience, and NIHSS certification.

Details
  • Medical Surgical
    - Neuro unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Average daily census of 32 patients with a 1:6-7 patient ratio
  • Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours (6:30 AM - 6:00 PM)
  • Required to work every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
  • Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required (OCN preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Med/Surg work setting experience required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Telemetry remote monitoring and Rapid Response Team experience required
  • Experience with colostomy care, feeding tube care and management required
  • Experience accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs required
  • Experience with Heparin, Insulin, and PCA medication administration required
  • Neurological/psychiatric case experience required, including CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injury
  • Surgical drain experience required
  • Respiratory case experience required, including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac experience required
  • Continuous bladder irrigation experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
Additional Information
  • Provide direct patient care to med/surg and neuro patients in a Level II Trauma center with 372 staffed beds
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • RTO requests should ideally be limited to no more than 5 days
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted at this facility
