Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Neuro RN with an active IL license and at least 2 years of experience, including telemetry and neurological case management skills, for a Level II Trauma acute care hospital.

Details

    - Neuro unit in an acute care hospital
  • Average daily census of 32 patients with a 1:6-7 patient ratio
  • 3x12 hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM
  • Works every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Uses Cerner charting system
Requirements
  • Active IL RN license required and in hand
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required (OCN preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience required
  • Cerner charting experience required
  • Experience in Med/Surg and MS/Tele settings required
  • Telemetry remote monitoring and rapid response team experience required
  • Skilled in IV therapy including port access, central line blood draws, PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Experience with blood product administration required
  • Gastrointestinal care skills required, including colostomy and feeding tube management
  • Neurological/psychiatric case experience required, including CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Experience with surgical drains required
  • Respiratory care skills required, including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway management
  • Medication administration experience required for heparin, insulin, and PCA
  • Isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac experience required
  • Continuous bladder irrigation experience required
  • Teaching hospital and Trauma Level II experience preferred
Additional Information
  • Care for neurological and medical-surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring, respiratory support, and specialized wound care
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Level II Trauma Center with 372 staffed beds
  • Parking permit required at no cost, arranged during orientation
  • RTO ideally limited to 5 or fewer days per assignment
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the facility must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
