Sells general merchandise to customers using professional selling techniques. Works as part of a sales team to provide service that anticipates and exceeds customer expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities- Greets and engages customers in conversation to provide sales assistance.
- Assists customers in selecting merchandise and suggests complementary items.
- Offers extended product warranties when applicable, explaining coverage, benefits, and price.
- Maintains a friendly and professional demeanor, adhering to the NEX dress code and uniform standards.
- Becomes knowledgeable about merchandise, including setup, use, care, characteristics, and warranty coverage.
- Communicates product information confidently and clearly.
- Ensures assigned areas are fully stocked and merchandise is neatly arranged.
- Communicates with supervisors and store managers about stock changes, customer preferences, and issues.
- Participates in department meetings and shares ideas for improving customer service and sales performance.
- Completes sales transactions efficiently and thanks customers for their patronage.
- Performs cash register transactions accurately, including cash, charge, check, gift certificates, and layaway.
- Informs customers about upcoming sales events and services available at the Navy Exchange, such as gift wrapping, engraving, and delivery.
- Encourages customers to open a NEXCARD account and explains its benefits.
- Becomes familiar with NEX store policies, the Richter Merchandising System, merchandise returns, price matching, and other store functions.
- Handles customer returns and problems tactfully and efficiently, applying store policies consistently.
- Maintains high awareness in assigned areas to deter theft and provide excellent customer service to all patrons.
- Unpacks, stages, and moves merchandise as assigned; assists with store displays and periodic inventories.
- Completes paperwork related to merchandise movement, price adjustments, customer returns, and cash register operation accurately.
- Is eligible for and participates in applicable commission and gain sharing sales incentive programs.
- Lifts up to 25 lbs as required for job duties, including assisting customers and stocking.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- U.S. citizen or has lived in the U.S. for at least three (3) years.
- No experience required.
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Cleaning protocols, including hand sanitizer and supplies for daily use.
- Social distancing by maintaining at least six feet between employees and shoppers.
- Face masks and gloves for associates to wear during shifts.
