Performs preventive and corrective maintenance tasks and repairs involving motors, starters, and related equipment. Tests, maintains, and repairs motor control centers. Covers duties of the Heating System Mechanic when assigned. Performs preventive maintenance on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, BAS, pumps, fans, heat exchanges, steam traps, valves, and other HVAC equipment. Performs corrective maintenance on assigned steam and hot water heating systems, air handlers, fan coils, and associated controls.
Calibrates and repairs pneumatic and electric control circuits. Repairs copper, steel, or plastic pipe and tubing. Maintains Buildings & Grounds A/C and refrigeration systems. Maintains and repairs steam/hot water conversion systems. DDC experience mandatory. Work performed safely, following department policies, Federal and State municipal codes. Must be willing to work overtime in emergencies and take callbacks when requested.
- Install, maintain, and repair all HVAC equipment throughout the facilities.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, chillers, cooling towers, BAS, pumps, fans, heat exchanges, steam traps, valves, and other equipment.
- Test, maintain, and repair motor control centers and related equipment.
- Calibrate and repair pneumatic and electric control circuits.
- Repair copper, steel, or plastic pipe and tubing, and other system components.
- Maintain and repair steam/hot water conversion systems.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA, and all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Lead and coordinate work of any assisting personnel.
- Respond to emergencies, including overtime and callbacks.
- U.S. Citizen.
- Vocational, trade, or high school graduate, or GE.D. graduate.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- At least four (4) years of applicable HVAC trade experience.
- CT S2 HVAC license (S1 preferred).
- Universal certification to reclaim refrigerant.
- Knowledge of NEC & OSHA codes, laws, and regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
- Proficient oral and written English communication skills.
- Proficiency with low voltage control systems and related test equipment.
- Strong knowledge of high voltage electric power principles.
- Ability to work in close, confining spaces and meet OSHA work/environment standards.
- Valid 8th‑grade reading level in English.
Subject to severe weather conditions, inadequate light, and ventilation. Required protective equipment includes eye, face, head, hand, foot, hearing, and breathing protection. Must follow all federal, state, and local safety procedures, including OSHA regulations and municipal regulations.
Physical DemandsStands, walks, stoops, kneels, lifts, and works in all positions. Must lift 50 pounds. Must handle physical demands, work at heights on roofs, power hoists, and ladders.
