SummaryPerform duties to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structural frameworks. This is accomplished by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities. A minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in the Industrial Ironworker craft is required. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsibilities- Read blueprints and select required material for construction.
- Set up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural steel members.
- Fasten steel members to the hoist using chain, cable or rope.
- Guide the structure being lifted into proper position and align rivet holes with corresponding holes.
- Drive drift pins through rivet holes.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level.
- Bolts aligned structures to keep them in position until permanently riveted, bolted or welded into place.

Language SkillsAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees. For safety reasons, it is imperative that the employee be able to read and speak fluent English.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsDepending on the job site, certain certificates or licenses may be required. NCCER and Advanced Rigging preferred.
Other QualificationsIt may be necessary to travel or commute for this position.
Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb or balance;
stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
