This position requires joining metal parts (pipes or metal plates) as specified by layout, blueprints, work orders, welding procedures, or oral instructions through the application of heat or electric arc-welding equipment. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Weld or tack weld pieces using spot welding gun, electric, or gas welding equipment.
• Unite pipes from torch to tanks of oxygen and fuel gas and operate valves.
• Achieve the required flame temperature, size, and color by burning the torch and adjusting gas/air flow.
• Preheat work pieces for welding or shaping using a torch.
• Fill holes or correct mistakes in lead pieces and adjust bulges or curves in metal work pieces.
• Inspect pieces for weaknesses and measure with straightedge or templates to ensure specifications are met.
• Climb ladders or work on scaffolds to access work pieces.
• Signal to crane operator to lift large work pieces.
• Use thermal-cutting equipment (flame-cutting torch or plasma-arc) to dismount assemblies or cut scrap metal.
• Use hoists, cranes, wire and banding equipment, or hand tools to place and protect work pieces.
• Position the torch to respect type, thickness, area, and intended temperature of the metal.
• Direct flame or electrodes across the work piece to straighten, curve, dissolve, or develop metal.
• Join pieces, secure points, and add material to form parts.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Experience – 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
