Position: Homeless Education Resource Officer (Part-Time) - Central Office
SUMMARY:

* Works with the Homeless School Liaison in Decatur City Schools to provide support for students who have been identified as homeless.

REPORTS TO:

* Superintendent and/or Superintendent's Designee

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assists the Homeless School Liaison with keeping accurate, up-to-date records regarding students who are declared homeless.

* Assists the Homeless School Liaison with issues related to attendance for students who have been declared homeless.

* Assists the Homeless School Liaison with status reviews/updates regarding students identified as being homeless.

* Makes home visits as deemed necessary and appropriate.

* Conducts address verifications upon request.

* Assists the Homeless School Liaison with garnering community resources/support for homeless students.

* Works with the Homeless School Liaison to provide needed resources to homeless students.

* Performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

* Minimum of an Associate's Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

* Law Enforcement experience (PREFERRED).

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a 9-month, part-time position, with varied working hours.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

* An Associate's Degree or higher.

* Law Enforcement Certifications as applicable.

LANGUAGE

SKILLS:

* Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedural manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

MATHEMATICAL

SKILLS:

* Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY:

* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

* Data Conception:
Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics of data, people or things.

* Interpersonal Communication:
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to others.

* Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional settings.

* Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

* Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.

* Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

* Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

* Physical Communication:
Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

* The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Noise level is usually moderate, but may vary. The employee is continuously required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interact with the public and other staff, and work irregular or extended work hours.
