Position

Summary

The Safety Specialist is responsible for managing safety and compliance for an assigned fleet of drivers as well as warehouse operations. This role plays a critical part in accident response, regulatory compliance, driver training, and risk mitigation. The Safety Specialist works cross‑functionally with drivers, management, customers, attorneys, and insurance representatives to ensure timely resolution of safety matters and compliance with federal and state regulations.

Key Responsibilities Accident & Injury Management
  • Manage all aspects of accident and injury compliance, including communication with drivers, emergency personnel, insurance adjusters, attorneys, and leadership
  • Maintain accurate company and legal documentation related to claims
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSR, DOT, OSHA, and related regulations
  • Monitor Hours of Service (HOS) compliance
  • Manage DOT complaints and roadside inspections
  • Maintain driver qualification files (DQ files) and ensure medical cards, licenses, and endorsements remain current
  • Oversee random and post‑accident drug and alcohol testing
Driver Oversight & Training
  • Run and review annual Motor Vehicle Reports (MVRs)
  • Identify and monitor driver risk factors and critical events
  • Administer corrective action for safety‑related violations
  • Develop and deliver new hire and remedial training (in‑person and online)
  • Lead safety initiatives and campaigns
  • Provide OSHA forklift training to shop employees
  • Create, analyze, and distribute safety and compliance reports
  • Partner with recruiting on candidate evaluations
  • Provide on‑call support (minimum one week per month)
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Familiarity with DOT compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Strong communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to be on‑call at least one week per month
  • CDL‑A with prior driver training or management experience
  • Knowledge of FMCSR, OSHA, and EPA regulations
  • Experience with auto liability and workers’ compensation matters
Preferred
  • Experience in transportation safety, EHS, or occupational health & safety
Travel:

Approximately 10% (3–4 times per year)

  • Ability to use computer and phone for prolonged periods
  • Ability to climb stairs and move between buildings (outdoor exposure possible)
  • Ability to wear appropriate PPE
  • Ability to safely enter and exit commercial vehicles for ride‑along as needed
