Job DescriptionDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and type of truck. They transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities, pick‑up containers of waste or recyclable material, and manage large mobile containers on residential or industrial routes. Drivers often navigate congested traffic, driveways, alleyways, and yards, and must perform highly skilled backing maneuvers.
Job SummaryCommercial and residential drivers operate trucks to collect waste or recyclable material, load large containers, and navigate various traffic conditions. Roll‑off drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile containers from customer locations, working in tight overhead environments on industrial routes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the standard DVIR.
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify the Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, closed or impassable streets or alleyways, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by the Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
The expected base pay range for this on‑site position is $29.00 - $31.00. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- At least one year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL (or one year equivalent military driving within the last seven years).
- At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screening and a physical exam.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement or Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.
